If you’re a movie nut and you get all your movie channels from places like http://www.directstartv.com/localchannels/Cal then chances are you have seen both of these movies and scratched your head at the almost blatant similarities. For the sake of clarification, I’ll explain, briefly, what each movie is about and then we will compare them.

Deep Impact was released in 1998. It was a disaster movie about an imminent threat to Earth in the form of a comet. Humanity held lotteries to save as many civilians as they could and a team of scientists were launched into space to land on the comet and destroy it.

Armageddon came out a mere two months after Deep Impact. In Armageddon, a team of oil drilling experts are conscripted by NASA to land on a planet-destroying meteor in hopes of drilling deep enough to destroy it before it makes planet fall.

The two sound the same on paper but if you ever saw these movies you would know that they are far from the same. For starters, Deep Impact was much more plausible and contained some intelligent and challenging drama. Instead of going for the Hollywood, everyone lives happily ever after ending – Deep Impact gave us a real look at the consequences of such a disaster and that is why Deep Impact, despite similarities, is still light years ahead of Armageddon.

Deep Impact had a very effective soundtrack for what it was trying to go for. It definitely set the scene with the music and captured the emotion and feeling of what was going on. It beautifully illustrates scenes after they find out the comet is going to hit. Everyone realizes that its going to happen and a sad overtone melody and soft symphony matches many of the scenes perfect. Even when the action picks up when things are frantic, the music mirrors the scene with suspenseful and thrilling music to keep the pace up.

Since the movie is about a natural disaster and how humans can survive and rebuild, the movie tells a story through its music. Like at the end where the president is at the destroyed white house, the music lays a hope and inspiring tone. The soundtrack is worthwhile because it perfectly matches the whole plot of the movie. A comet is crashing to earth, which means destruction and sorrow. The soundtrack mixes the soft sad melodies of loss and tough decisions with the intense and frantic nature of trying to escape the effects of the comet crashing to earth. Deep Impact’s beautiful soundtrack is definitely worthwhile.

Deep Impact was a great film, but was it science fiction or drama? Is it really that far fetched that a meteor could strike earth and kill off a large portion of civilization? While the likelihood of a meteor strike of that magnitude is not high, it is relatively believable. It is for that reason I would call it more of a drama. While the story line may come across as science fiction to many, the drama of it sticks out in my mind. Everything from the government’s response to the competition for a space in the bunker is drama to me. Even the exploration of the news reporter’s relationships with family and friends brings out the drama of the film. Science fiction films concentrate on aliens and advanced weaponry, space and time travel and genetic mutations. Deep Impact is predominantly a drama that shows the various human responses to impending doom. This film explored human emotions and reactions more than it explored the scientific realm of a meteor and it’s potential impact. The storyline dove head first into planning to save what could be saved and how those left to deal with inevitable death would handle or cope with the news and the event itself.

The movie Deep Impact, stars Elijah Wood, Tea Leoni, Robert Duvall, and Morgan Freeman. The story is about, a comet hitting the world and a crew of astronauts land on the comet and use dynamite to blow it up. The trial is a failure and they begin building underground. The east coast is destroyed and the west coast is saved because the members of the space shuttle conduct a suicide type mission and save the world.

For the role of Leo played by Elijah Wood, someone like Devon Sawa, someone who could be a bit more heartthrob. Is this new to you? Catch up here I also think the role Tea Leoni plays, Jenny Lerner, should have been played by a more pivotal character like Jodie Foster, someone with more depth. I believe the Presidents character played by Morgan Freeman is probably the best character in the movie, I don’t think he should be changed, he played a good President. I believe the supporting characters are also a good match for the movie and play their roles well.

Overall I believe the two front running cast members should have been changed, and it might have made a huge difference in the movie. Jodie Foster has a deeper range when it comes to acting and would have played the emotions a lot better.

I know that many people are big fans of the movie “Deep Impact” because it boasts of an impressive story plot, amazing actors, and outstanding effects. For those of you who have no idea what “Deep Impact” is, it is a movie about a comet about to have a collision with Earth. The President of the United States of America knows that a comet is about to strike the Earth, but he decided to hide it from his people. To stop the comet from reaching Earth, they sent two spacecrafts to destroy it.

“Deep Impact” is a very realistic movie because there is a big possibility that it can happen anytime to our planet.Check out this link here. There is a chance that a comet can have a collision with our planet that can lead to the destruction of every living thing on Earth. This movie will keep you wondering what would happen to us if that scenario happens. However, there are still some people who are thinking that this movie is hard for them to believe due to certain factors. There are a few people who think that it is not possible that a comet as large as Mount Everest will hit Earth in the future. Whether you think that “Deep Impact” is realistic or hard to believe in, this is a movie worth watching.
